The Laundry Room

The House was built in 1939 and our aim in remodeling it is to keep the look and feel of that time.  The Laundry Room, which is off of the garage, was once a half bathroom for the hired help of the house. When we moved in the toilet and a phone that was connected to one in the kitchen, were still in place.  Bobby transformed that room into the Laundry Room seen in the photos above.  He laid the new floor, replaced the ceiling and updated all of the lighting, electrical and plumbing in the room.  I love it.  Like the kitchen wall in Florida, any piece of art looks good on this wall.  Since the Kitchen here is now being remodeled, the Laundry Room is also doubling as a kitchenette.  The fifth photo is of the good neighbor door that leads into the Laundry Room from outside the House. The last photo is a detail of the Youth Drawing.

Youth DrawingThe graphite drawing measures 26"W X 20"H.  Matted behind glass and in the silver leaf frame, the piece measures 35"W X 29"H.  Pricing and shipping information is available at http://www.etsy.com/listing/91815017/youth-drawing

Grace

While searching the Lost and Found section on Craigslist for any possible information about the two stray dogs he found (Millie and Henry featured below), Bobby ran across a posting about a wounded dog with a collar living on a construction site south of Dallas. Somehow, one of the dogs' legs had been cut or torn off and the bone was exposed.  She was living off scraps the construction crews threw her and apparently slept in the woods nearby.  The men we spoke to said she had been there for 3-4 weeks in that condition. The missing limb did little to slow her down though.  She would not get close enough for anyone to catch her.  Bobby and I spent two days there trying to catch her.  The second time we went out we were more prepared. Our lovely vet Dr. Lavender (who helped us get Henry adopted by a family she knew!) gave us a couple of tranquilizers to use on the dog, hoping to calm and slow her down enough for us to catch her and get her some medical attention.  After staking the site out, locating her and stalking her a bit, Bobby was able to get close enough to toss her the sedatives.  Once they kicked in, he was able to chase her down and get a rope around her neck.  After that, it was just a matter of getting her into the car and to the vet.  Which we did.  Grace, that is what we have named her, is now at our vet and will have surgery on Monday to amputate her half leg.  Once she was at the vet and used to us, she turned out to be just about the sweetest dog ever, loving on not only Bobby and me, but on the vet and clinic staff as well.  The next step, after getting her healthy, is finding a home that she deserves.  The picture above is of Bobby and Grace right after he managed to catch her.  Bobby is my hero.

Portrait of a Female

These are some really poor quality photos of a painting I really like alot. The size is good (40" x 40" square) and the colors are actually much better in person than in the photos above. I want to have it reframed and remounted on another board.  I am posting about it today in hopes it will spur me to take some action on it.  I wouldn't bet on it though...

Etsy

So, I have had an Etsy Shop off and on for awhile now. Since moving here I have paid little to no attention to it. Today, I reactivated my page there. Hopefully, I will get it back and up running with new work soon. https://www.etsy.com/shop/blairlipscomb?ref=l2-shopheader-name

Son Doong, World's Largest Cave

Here is a link to an article about the Son Doong Cave in Vietnam. It looks fantastic! Like 'Land of the Lost'.  http://huff.to/1fIB8Sl

A Work in Progress

I started this painting some time ago and stopped working on it at what I thought was a halfway point.  I am now undecided about whether to continue working on it or leaving it the way it is.  I like that it feels more like a study or a sketch than a completed painting. I just don't know.

A Pipe And A Root

The Laundry Room for the House is located in the garage.  It was originally a bathroom for the owners' hired help and included a phone that connected to one in the Kitchen.  Bobby has remodeled it into our Laundry Room.  I will post photos of it soon.  However, the photo above is of the old clay drain pipe that runs from the Laundry Room.  I was digging in the garden bed yesterday and found it as pictured above.  A root had grown into one of the joints years and years ago, breaking the pipe and causing water to gather under the flagstone patio instead of running off into drainage.  While horrible and a pain, it is strangely fascinating to see natures' destructive force, even on such a small scale.

Morning View

I have always enjoyed sitting on the front porch drinking coffee in the morning, no matter where I lived. Here is a photo I took this morning from the front porch. The tree in our next door neighbors' yard is gorgeous. I love their whole house.

My Bathroom

Now that the exterior of the House is done, work has begun on the interior.  It was decided that the Kitchen (after the Laundry Room, which is already done) would be the first interior room redone.  Because my Bathroom sits on top of the Kitchen and shares plumbing lines, it made sense to redo the plumbing there at the same time.  So, my Bathroom is now gutted, just like the Kitchen below it. The above photo is my Bathroom now.  We will keep the fantastic bathtub and pedestal sink.  I love this photo for some reason.

Small Abstract Painting

These are photos of a small abstract piece I just finished painting.  I found the antique frame at a shop here in town and have been looking for an abstract work to put in it.  I never did find one, so I finally decided to paint one myself.  Here it is hanging in the Living Room.

Painted Landscapes

I have been working on one landscape for almost a year now.  The painting has vexed me since the first day I started it. I told myself this past week that yesterday was going to be the last day I worked on it. The whole thing has become ridiculous and I seem to use the painting not being done as an excuse to not work on anything else. So in celebration of completing it (at least for now), I thought I would repost the five landscapes that came before it. All of these have sold except for the fourth one. That one, I may keep.

Mikey.

Even though the temperature has hovered around 100 degrees every day for the last several weeks, all the plants are still in full bloom, lush and green. The photo above is of my boy Mikey, sitting on the back fence amongst all that green, enjoying the cooler morning temperature.
